Primary Markets

The Benelux countries are home to the managing director, Pieter Verstraete. The Benelux is the international gateway to the rest of Europe, comprising two of the biggest international ports, and right at the heart of Europe. It houses the headquarters of leading institutions such as the European Union, NATO and the UN Court. Its densely populated countries have a sprawling and easily accessible road and rail network, and its populations are frequently bi- or even tri-lingual.

China is where our regional manager is from, and is also the adopted second home of our managing partner. With a population of over 1 billion and the largest middle class in the world, China’s economic importance can hardly be overstated. It has a quickly diversifying industry and services sector, and its businesspeople are always interested in sound and smart investment opportunities.

Pieter Verstraete

Managing Director

Pieter Verstraete is the managing director of Serval Management & Consulting and takes the lead on the company’s investment and management consulting projects. Pieter holds a degree in Chinese culture and linguistics ( Ghent University, Belgium) and a MBA ( Webster University, US) and participated in career advancement programs in venture capital ( Vlerick University, Belgium) and strategic management (Harvard University, US).

He has adopted China as his second homeland and knows the ins and outs of its business culture very well. Pieter bridges the best of both worlds and has worked with hundreds of Chinese investors and several Asian investment funds looking strategic opportunities in the West. He published his experiences and advice on business dealings with Chinese investors in his book "Forging Smart Deals with China: How to Benefit from China’s Increased Presence in Europe" ( Dutch version: Winnen met de Chinezen,Uitgeverij Pelckmans, 2019 ).

As of 2020, Pieter is also taking on strategic management and corporate venturing assignments in Europe, utilizing his international experience to help European firms capitalize on international business and investment opportunities. With a unique perspective on the global evolution of business and a keen eye for the chances offered by the rapid proliferation of emerging technologies. Besides his consulting, he also invest as a business angel in promising business projects.
